Equine physiotherapy

What is Equine Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy for your horse is a aimed at improving the health, mobility, and performance of horses through the treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal issues. It involves techniques such as massage, stretching, joint mobilizations, and therapeutic exercises to address injuries, enhance recovery, and reduce pain. By focusing on maintaining flexibility, strength, and movement quality, equine physiotherapy helps horses recover from injuries, prevent future problems, and optimize their physical performance.

When should your Horse see a Physiotherapist?

Your horse should see a physiotherapist if it shows signs of discomfort, stiffness, or a decline in performance, such as reluctance to move, uneven gait, or difficulty with certain movements. Additionally, if your horse has recently suffered an injury, undergone surgery, or is recovering from lameness, physiotherapy can help accelerate healing and prevent further complications. Regular sessions are also beneficial for competition horses to maintain peak performance and prevent injury. Early intervention can improve your horse’s comfort and overall well-being.

What to expect during an Equine Physiotherapy session

  • A Thorough assessment of your horse’s movement, posture and any areas of discomfort or stiffness. This may involve watching your horse walk or trot and a lunge assessment if necessary.

  • A tailored treatment using a variety of techniques

  • An individualized treatment plan with exercises to continue to support your horse’s recovery and performance

  • As per the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966), veterinary consent will need to be obtained prior to any treatment.

Physiotherapy for Pet

What is physiotherapy for pets?

Physiotherapy for your dog or cat is designed to aid in the rehabilitation, pain management, and physical well-being of pets. By using manual therapy techniques, tailored exercises, and electrotherapy, our goal is to improve mobility, manage pain, and restore function for pets recovering from injury, surgery, or suffering from chronic conditions like arthritis.

When should your Pet see a Physiotherapist?

A pet should see a physiotherapist if they are experiencing mobility issues, pain, or discomfort, such as limping, stiffness, or difficulty
with everyday activities like climbing stairs or jumping. Physiotherapy is also crucial for pets recovering from surgery, managing chronic conditions like arthritis, or healing from soft tissue injuries. Older pets or those with weight-related mobility challenges can benefit from physiotherapy to improve their quality of life and prevent further complications. Early treatment helps alleviate pain, restore function, and promote faster recovery.
